The overall long-term objective of this project is to reduce the instances of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances, torture and ill-treatment, and arbitrary detention in Kenya by strengthening the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) with tools and knowledge developed on the back of the recent review of the Minnesota Protocol to be able to effectively provide oversight and investigate alleged police abuses, in particular with respect to extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances, torture and ill-treatment, and arbitrary detention.

Key outputs:

  1. An induction of the newly-appointed IPOA Board members was held. This was a collaboration among APCOF, University of Pretoria, IPOA, University of Nairobi, Danish Institute for Human Rights and CHRIPS.
